FLU + PROTECTING MY BABIES.
These are my babies. The ones I’ll lay down my life to protect. The ones I will do anything for. The ones that allow me to speak up even when my voice shakes. So let’s talk about ways I protect them, and things I avoid to protect them.
Flu season is here! Everywhere I look I see ads for the flu shot. ☠️
Medical research has shown that flu shots make you more likely to get upper respiratory illnesses, increase risk for children to be hospitalized when they get the flu, increase the risk for miscarriage in pregnant women, are sometimes are only 10% effective, and the manufacturing of flu vaccines has caused influenza viruses to mutate, making them stronger and more virulent. Oh, and in 2014 alone manufactures made 1.6 BILLION dollars on the flu shot alone. 😏 More on that below. ✌🏻
We think flu and cold season is a real season. it’s really not. It’s a season of less sunshine, more sugar (hello Halloween candy, Thanksgiving treats, and Christmas parties!) and more stress. Add that all together, and our immune system defenses are lowered, and sickness can creep in.
Here are some ways we keep our bodies healthy, and skip the flu shot. (And reasons why that’s a useless and dangerous option farther down.)

VITAMIN D //

HAND WASHING //

ELDERBERRY //

in one study, 93.3% of the people taking an elderberry preparation reported significant improvement in influenza symptoms within 2 days of starting it, compared with the 6 days it took for the placebo group to see improvement.1
In another study, researchers gave either a placebo syrup or elderberry syrup to patients who reported having flu-like symptoms for less than 48 hours. On average, the patients who received the elderberry syrup saw relief of symptoms 4 days earlier than the group that received the placebo syrup. As an added benefit, the patients in the elderberry syrup group took significantly fewer over-the-counter medications in hopes of symptom relief.2
Researchers also have found that people who have taken elderberries have higher levels of antibodies against the influenza virus, showing that not only may the berry be able to treat flu symptoms, it may also be able to prevent influenza infection.3
CLEANING //

SLEEP //
Sleeping enough hours has been an important part of my life and my parenting journey. When we are sleeping our bodies are healing and growing. It’s how we recharge. We’ve practiced good sleep habits since our kids were babies and they all have slept 12 hours since.
FOOD //
You are what you eat. Lots of veggies and fruits and good fats get thrown into smoothies every day for us! High quality meat, grass fed, organic, and hormone free. (Hershberger farm is our local favorite)
WATER //
Clean water. Lots of water. My kids drink water and Ningxia. That’s it. For an occasional treat they get chocolate milk. We filtered our water with the Berkey before we got the whole house AquaOx!
REDUCE SUGAR //
Sugar feeds illness and disease. period. and I love sugar haha I reduce it as best I can in the winter months!

Now, here’s what they don’t tell you about getting a flu shot:
Medical research has found...
(1) Flu vaccines increase the risk of upper respiratory tract infections and are no more protective against flu than a placebo.
(2) Flu vaccines make people >6x more infectious when they contract influenza A.
(3) Multi-dose flu vaccines contain mercury which can accumulate in the brain and cause neurotoxicity.
(4) Children who get the flu vaccine have 3x the risk of being hospitalized for flu.
(5) Pregnant women who had back to back flu vaccines in two consecutive seasons (2010-11 and 2011-12) were 7.7x more likely to have miscarriages.
(6) Only a small proportion of influenza-like illness can be attributed to influenza viruses (just 10%)! (This is one reason why so many people get the vaccine and still get the “flu”!)
(7) The manufacturing of flu vaccines has caused influenza viruses to mutate, making them stronger and more virulent.

(8) In 2014, manufacturers enjoyed over $1.6 BILLION in revenue from flu vaccine sales alone.
